London Plant Associates
enjoy a day at Eastbourne
23rd September 2009
The sixth outing this year was to Eastbourne in Sussex. The days prior to the outing were hot and sunny. On the day it was warm and cloudy with occasional light drizzle of rain, however, this did not dampen the spirits of the 46 hardy London Plant seniors. The resort gives a very relaxed feeling which comes from the large number of elderly people seated and strolling along the seafront, enjoying their retirement.

We were disappointed to find that the Tour Buses, Eastbourne to Beachy Head, would not accept the small lightweight electric wheel chair, therefore discriminating against the disabled. I have written to the company to complain.
On route we made a comfort stop at Royal Tunbridge Wells, a very old town with many small specialised shops.

On the day of our visit The Telegraph had named it the "debt capital of Europe". Apparently, its easy access to Eurostar links to Continental Europe, cheaper rents than London, 'and a very nice area' have all attracted Europeans (mainly Austrians & Germans) crippled with debts to settle in Kent, with many choosing Tunbridge Wells.
As long as a person has lived in Britain for six months, they can be declared bankrupt in a British court, writing off their debts just one year later. This compares to a wait of seven or even nine years in Germany.
