Manchester Area Associates
Day-Trip to Liverpool
- Wednesday 30th September -
The day dawned bright and sunny when 205 Associates boarded five coaches for the thirty-mile journey to Liverpool.
On arrival at Albert Dock one Associate enquired if she could use the toilet - and was soon followed by another 200 on the long trek to "conveniences" situated a long way across the dock!!
However all was not lost and we welcomed some local Blue Badge Guides who took each coach on a tour the around the city, viewing the many sights including the two cathedrals, Matthew Street and the newly converted South End Docks.

Our next stop was lunch at the world famous Adelphi Hotel - we all remember the fly on the wall documentary some years ago including "Just Cook, Will You!!" - and were treated to a splendid three-course meal served in the magnificent ballroom with the huge chandeliers.
Some took the opportunity to see some of the other function rooms including one created by the designer of the ballroom on the RMS Titanic.

Time was soon up and we boarded the coaches once more for the short journey to the Pier Head and embark on one of the Mersey ferryboats for a fifty minute round trip on the river.

On a calm day everybody enjoyed the commentary and views of the buildings old and new from a different perspective.

All too soon to the strains of "Ferry across the Mersey" from Gerry and the Pacemakers we disembarked and made our way by the coaches to Albert Dock itself for a two-hour break.
With so much to see including the "Tate of the North" and the fabulous Maritime Museum with the choice of many outside cafés it was with regret we had to leave on our short journey back to Manchester after a very enjoyable day.
