North Eats Associates Pub Lunches
- 2009 - Winter - 2010 -
2010, can you believe it, another new decade, where does the time go?
Although I'm writing this in February it's for last year's lunch so I feel a little disjointed. Well here goes, the time is 12 noon, the date is 10th November 2009, the place The Blue Bell, Jesmond Vale. Jesmond Vale is a little known place on the eastern perimeter of Newcastle city centre.
Very few people had heard of the pub and only one person had previously visited the place (apart from myself). It was a miserable, damp, drizzly, cold, misty day so I expected a low turn-out. However, the poor weather is no deterrent to the lunchers and 34 were knocking at the door early, as the pub didn't open until 12.00.

The visit was well worthwhile, the quality of the food was exceptional and the portions were massive. A full menu was available from which I had a beautiful Steak and Kidney Pudding (which is quite rare) including creamed potato and vegetables, a bargain at £8.95. The portions were so big not one dessert was ordered.
There was no pub lunch organised for December because of the close proximity of the North East Associates Christmas Lunch on the 10th.
We are now into January, there is still snow about but the worst is now over. I hope everyone had nice Christmas and New Year celebrations, I know I did.
It's January 14th and we're visiting the Twin Farms at Woolsington.

Woolsington is a little village between Newcastle and Ponteland on the old Newcastle Airport road. We visited this pub three years ago and were disappointed at the pricing of the food, EXPENSIVE.

Messages on the grapevine filtered through that the quality of the food had been maintained while the prices were now competitive - so some took advantage, they were offering a small menu of two courses with a drink for £9.95, excellent. |
I myself went à la carte for Liver, Bacon and Onions on a bed of mashed potato with cabbage and peas for £8.95. All in all the Twin Farms is back on the list.

38 people attended the lunch, which quite surprised me until I realised that a lot of us were 'stir crazy' from being cooped up because of the bad weather.

So, until next time, enjoy your pub lunches.
Regards, Keith Stokoe
