South East Associates see The Wallace Collection
- Thursday 25th February -
The Wallace Collection is a Treasure House of one family's collection, the finest collection of art ever assembled by one family. Five generations of collectors, four Marquesses of Hertford and Sir Richard Wallace, each made their own special contribution.
We were so fortunate to be allocated Jill Bace, an American lady who was super guide, and who entertained us with the entire history of the collection and of the lives of collectors, mainly throughout the 17 and 18 hundreds.
We had a generous two hours of delight.
 The Main Staircase
The group met and browsed for an hour or so at leisure, then joined together in the Atrium Restaurant for a light lunch, followed by this wonderful tour. We saw the Sevres porcelain, The Laughing Cavalier (by Hals), The Swing (by Fragonard), masses of superb armoury, and lots of pictures by great artists - Rubens, de Hooch, Wattau to name but a few.
The Wallace is a national treasure and a place to visit and re-visit whenever one is in London's West End.
Pop in and out, it is free and open at weekends too.
