South East Associates
Great Fosters Hotel
- Wednesday 11th January -
The Associate scheme is in its 18th year! In many ways quite an achievement, as in all regions of the country the engagement of retirees with each other and with the Company continues.
Our big event of the year is always the lunch in January, and for the first time, this, our 17th such lunch was not at the Wentworth club, but at the Great Fosters Hotel in Egham - one of Henry VII’s former hunting lodges - a 16th century Grade 1 listed building set in 50 acres of gardens.
We dined in the adjacent 14th century Tithe Barn, complete with vaulted oak beams, a minstrel’s gallery, and a huge open roaring fireplace – an unusual and dramatic setting and every bit as ‘special’ as previous years.
For the fifth year running, the attendance was over one hundred – 116 Associates and spouses or partners, to be exact.
The atmosphere was warm, social and fun. Our company guest was Aimee Goldsmith, our new Associate scheme manager – succeeding Roisin Donnelly, who is now an Associate and joined us for the lunch!
Aimee is the head of Communications for Northern Europe and gave an interesting update on the current state of the business, and how P&G is coping with on-going difficult financial environment, particularly exchange rates following Brexit.
In addition, Aimee outlined the impressive community support efforts of the company. The ex-Gillette folk present were delighted with their brand innovation being featured in an impressive video, and a second video portrayed the good science which goes into Olay.
We looked back over the many 2016 events, which saw the Associates: exploring the pubs and rocks of South West Ireland; the architectural and historical glories of middle England – in Warwickshire; checked up on hip and knee replacement techniques at the Museum of the Royal College of Surgeons; visited one of the last working Silk Mills; kept up the usual alcohol theme at the Bombay Sapphire distillery in Hampshire and a wine-tasting at the Rothchild’s Waddesdon Manor and finally celebrated Christmas with a bit of Bach, Britten, Handel, leaping lords and gold rings at ‘St Martin-in-the-Fields’ in Trafalgar Square!!
|The Great Fosters' Hotel ambiance,
service and food were excellent,
and the event finished with a slide show film of
the “Associates in Action” during 2016,
