During the summer Maureen Germaney stepped down as one of the London plant
associates co-ordinator after over 20 years. Below George Mann tells the story.

                                              SECOND TIME AROUND
Having retired from full time employment in 1997, London Plant Region has seen one of its dedicated volunteers, Maureen Germaney, retire for the second time. Maureen was one of the people who got the scheme started for the region back in 1999. In those days it was purely a visiting scheme known as the ASSOCIATE LIAISON REPRESENTATIVE SCHEME, and Maureen was one of the original volunteer visitors. After a while the scheme moved on and was renamed THE ASSOCIATE SCHEME. Maureen then got involved in setting up the social event section along with several others. In fact Maureen’s late husband, Derek, who was a keen photographer, took and supplied many photos during events over the years for the magazine.
For her sins having spent a lot of years in finance at London Plant Maureen became the first (and only) treasurer the region has had since it started and has managed the yearly budget ever since. This role has now been passed on to Ira Gill.
Maureen has also been one of London Plant Regions coordinators for many years and represented our team at the NVC meetings.
Since giving up her role in the Scheme, Maureen and her daughter Virginia have been touring the length and breadth of the UK with a view to relocating to possibly Devon or Norfolk.
Maureen starting her second retirement
At the Christmas Volunteers Yearly Christmas Dinner, it was my honour & pleasure to present Maureen with a gift voucher on behalf of all the volunteers so she can purchase something for her new abode that will remind her of her time with the Volunteers and indeed the Scheme in general. Maureen will be a hard act to follow and will be sorely missed. However, all wished her all the very best in her second retirement and many happy and healthy years ahead of just “worrying about herself”.

London Plant Golf day May 2018
After our Golf day was postponed from April till May due to bad weather we had a good turn out for the later date. 20 players descended on Burstead golf club all eager to get going, the weather was dry and a little bit breezy but not too bad, after we had our bacon roll and coffee and all the formalities of we went down to the 10th tee. Today we were playing for longest drive with the very old club that everybody has to use this was won by Ray Russell, next we had nearest the pin this was won by Eddie Harmond a newcomer to the group, nearest the pin in two shots was also won by a newcomer Bob. The P & G winner was Dave Poysden with 35 points he now also has the shield for one year and the Runner up very close behind was Ray Russell with 34 points. The overall winner on the day was Eddie Harmond with 35 points just tipped it on countback. Then we had some fun prizes we only had one yellow ball back and the group was Dave P, Dave H, Ian C, and Tony Hills, and finally blind pairs Dicky Thompson and Graham. This was all followed by Ham Egg and Chips and a couple of drinks.
Another great day out

                                                               Procter and Gamble Golf Day
Wed 18th October was a dull and drizzly day but still 19 golfers turned out for the P&G golf day, it was held at Langdon Hills Golf and Country club. We started the day in the usual fashion coffee and bacons rolls and lots of banter, the teams drawn and it was off to the first tee. There was lots to play for nearest the pin on the 5th hole
(no winners on that ) then nearest the pin in 2 shots that was won by John Stock a new comer to the team, the longest drive with the old club on the last hole was won by Ian Catmore. There was no Yellow ball winners. Overall winner was the new boy John with 39 points second place with 34 points was Mick Roach, then there was 3 players with 31 points all got a prizes. We also had blind pairs competition and a lucky draw. There were some very good scores on the day despite the weather. Then we finished off the day with lovely Ham egg and chips and a couple of pints.
Well done to everyone and hope to see you next year.

                                                           London Associates Golf Day

On a bright and sunny day in April 20 players turned out for our Bi-annual golf day this time it was held at The Burstead golf club in Essex. The weather was great not a cloud in the sky we started our day in the usual way with coffee and bacon roll and lots of banter. The teams where already drawn and so off we went, the first hole we had as our longest drive and for this everybody has to use the same club it is a very old 5 wood I think but Bernard Melly had no trouble with the club so he managed to get the longest drive on the day.
Then we had nearest the pin in one and Roger O Neil managed to clear all the bunkers and put his ball in a good position to win the prize, next there was the nearest pin in two, the hole was a very long par three and Ian Catmore won the prize, Ian was also the overall winner coming in with 34 points joint with Denis Richardson but Ian won on count back and so Denis was runner up on the day. It was a very close game at the top with 2 people coming in with 34 points 4 on 32 points and 3 on 31 points. We also had 4 winners with the Yellow ball competition
and that was won by Dicky Thompson, Dave Poysdon, Stuart Honour and Colin Elsdon. A great day was had by all and well done to all the winners and to everybody that took part.
