Captain's Report

Ramside Hall Golf Club
20th June 2008

Sorry for the delay, I did not forget, just busy. This was my first trip to Ramside, as the society has not played there for a few years.  I know the cost of £40 for 27 holes put some people off, but they missed a gem of a day.

Starting with our normal bacon roll and having then to sort a mix up over the amount of tee times we had, the morning 9 holes flew over. With the new handicapping system in place, scores were competitive. The weather, forecast rain, stayed dry was sticky during the morning. The course in excellent condition, played fair. Providing you hit the fairway and not the rough, trees or water, good scoring was possible. The first 9 holes flew over, everyone regretting it was not an 18 hole event.

So to lunch, not the best, but sufficient. For a change plenty of time to turn around, for those not fairing well, a change to sharpen up their game. Again, the course was a pleasure to play. Scoring at the top of the leader board was tight, the winners the same as the morning, could only be separated by count back.

Best was to come, the main meal superb, with help yourself to the veggies. With Mark not eating his greens, there were more for every one else. For those who missed the day, if it is on next year, it's well worth the experience.

Not sure if the points are correct as I have sent all the cards onto Graham. When checking with Billy, he thinks Al scored 47 point in the afternoon and is due a large cut (No he didn't, but he is due a cut !) However, there are a few you can't count or think that a net par is worth 3 points (good try) but none of which changed the results.

To note for the handicap system to work we need ladies to play off the men's card for par etc because I can't set up two different courses within 1 event. So I suggest that in future Ladies play of the Ladies tees but mark vs. the mens par/SI. Over time it will work itself out in the handicap lists - Graham.

Thank you

Paul
